Devil Shake

I don't think I'd want to drink it, necessarily, but it sure is purty. Go here for tons more carbonated fun.

Oh, and by the way, for you Mad Men fans... be sure to check out the various and sundry Patio cans and bottles here and here.

Orange Show, Fontana, California, 1952

Fontana, Califonia (home of Kaiser Steel) on the opening day of the 1952 Orange Show.

Debra Swisher-- "You're So Good To Me"

After the Pixies Three broke up in '65 (I believe that's her on the far right), Ms. Swisher hooked up with the mighty Strangeloves to produce this explosive Beach Boys cover on Boom records, but then gave up her solo act to join a later formation of the Angels.

UPDATE 5/10/2010: My old embedded player has apparently crapped out, so let's try it this way:

The Kim Sisters, 1962

The Kim Sisters are seen here in a promo photo from an ad touting their 1962 trip to Atlanta. More here.

Time Won't Let Me

Viva Les Paul

Surfer's Cross

As seen in ads in Pete Millar's Drag Cartoons, among other places. Found a long way from the surf at the Anderson (S.C.) Jockey Lot, for the princely sum of $2.00. Other find of the day: a nice stock copy of "Making Time" by the Creation, hiding out in a stack of dreary mid-'70s R&B 45s.

SOUPY!

You might be more familiar with this song in the Great Scots' version, but here's the great Milton Supman's version of "That Wasn't No Girl", originally heard as the flip of his vocal rendition of "Spanish Flea" in 1966. If all goes well, you'll find it on the player below that I've spent TWO HOURS trying to install! As it turns out, the player was fine, my file hosting seems to have been the issue. So, there's more music ahead!

Hey You

SAM!

I don't do a lot of record shopping on eBay, but when I do, it tends to be for either Joe South albums (fun fact: the Australian record club edition of the Games People Play album is totally different!) or Japanese Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs picture sleeves. Of course, if you're reading this blog, you've presumably already heard this one a million times, but let's fast forward a decade or so... to 1977ish, with "The Wookie, Part One"! Frankly, it could be a lot worse. Like, say, Tom T. Hall's "May the Force Be With You", for instance.
And as long as we're talking about Samudio-related topics, here's Sonny Ace and the Twisters doing "Wooleh Booleh". It's Tex-Mex with extra Mex!
I hope these links work okay... I was getting nowhere trying to figure out how to embed a player.
